The introduction of FIFA 98 raised the bar for immersion like never before — especially for a game you had just bought.
The new 3D accelerator cards brought enhanced graphics, smooth animations, and a level of realism that made everything feel more alive. Players moved more naturally, replicating real-life stars with uncanny accuracy. It truly felt like the game was stepping into the future.
By pure chance, I saw the game’s intro playing on a screen in a computer store that was promoting it. It felt like I had jumped five years ahead in time.
It was one of those classic days when I just didn’t want to go to school — so I skipped class, wandering around, looking for something. That something turned out to be FIFA 98.
And it made my day.
I’m not even talking about the gameplay — we all know FIFA 98 was a masterpiece.
But that intro… with Blur’s “Song 2” blasting in the background — that was the cherry on top.
