Today I want to talk about the advertisements that introduced the new generations of consoles.
I remember the one for the PlayStation 1 – just a simple logo, yet it became an unforgettable piece of footage.
Or, going further back in time, the Sega Mega Drive ad with the famous Jerry Calà filling television screens with his catchphrases: “Libidine” and “Doppia Libidine!”
But among all of them, the one that I believe will truly remain in history was when Microsoft decided to enter the market with its first console.
It was an advertisement so unconventional, so close to the edge of legality, that after a short broadcast it was banned from TV for being too controversial.
For me, it was a genuine masterpiece: the idea of a newborn who grows up rapidly, ages, and dies, followed by the line “Life is short. Play more.”
To me, it perfectly embodied the cynicism of the future, when video games would invade households everywhere.
Every time I think about it, I can’t help but smile at the boldness and courage behind creating and airing such a commercial.
Let’s remember it by bringing it back once again!
