Halloween is getting closer, and many retro games come back to haunt our memories… Today, I want to remember Splatterhouse!

It was Namco’s true love letter to the horror genre. Back then, horror cinema ruled supreme with films like The Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Splatterhouse was clearly inspired by those movies—especially Friday the 13th—but it was never an official adaptation. Still, it captured their terrifying spirit perfectly.
The beauty of old games was in their simplicity and fast-paced action. In Splatterhouse, you play as Rick, wearing a mysterious mask and wielding a cleaver, cutting down hordes of monsters to rescue Jennifer. It played much like Final Fight, but with a gruesome twist: hanged corpses, flesh-eating zombies, and relentless violence as Rick hacked his way forward without mercy.
Back in those days, side-scrolling beat ’em ups were the heart of arcade fun. And now, with Halloween just around the corner, we can’t help but remember this bloody masterpiece from the past!
