The other day I watched Top Gun again (and then rewatched the sequel released a few years ago), and of course it made me want to step into Maverick’s shoes through a retro game. My choice fell on DOS with Top Gun: Danger Zone.
In this old video game you don’t directly play as Maverick, but you do get to fly iconic jets like the F-14 Tomcat and the F/A-18 Hornet. The first-person gameplay is a combat flight simulation featuring military missions, and the aerial dogfights really got me excited, making me feel like the protagonist of the movie.
I love going back to early ’90s graphics (the game was published by Konami in 1991), which brings back memories of the huge success Top Gun had when it was released in the 1980s, thanks to its characters and thrilling combat scenes. As always, retro gaming has its own unique charm, filled with nostalgic memories from a timeless era.
