When we wake up in the morning and step into the bathroom, we all see a box of cotton swabs.
But for a true retrogaming enthusiast, it’s impossible not to think of the genius of Ron Gilbert and his wonderful creation, Monkey Island.

I don’t remember exactly how long it took us to solve that puzzle; I only know that back then times were better for activating hidden parts of our brains while trying to figure out video game puzzles.

But when my brother and I finally understood what the cotton swab was for, we were left speechless — amazed and entertained by the stroke of genius Ron gave us in that moment.

Guybrush Threepwood uses the cotton swab like a key to finally open the monkey’s mouth and lead us to the ship of the terrible LeChuck.

I believe my mind is surrounded by small memories, each one bringing back the greatness of classic retro games.
Today it’s the cotton swab… next time, it will be an Astronomical Clock.
