Happy weekend, RetroGaming Warriors!
Today I want to briefly talk about a game that truly needs no introduction: Sonic the Hedgehog!
I wasn’t lucky enough to own the legendary Mega Drive, but I did have the magical Game Gear, and I played this masterpiece endlessly. Sonic was Sega’s direct rival to Nintendo’s Mario, but with a completely different focus—speed and fluidity. The fast-paced rhythm was spectacular, with loops, ramps, and alternate paths that kept every stage exciting.
It introduced unique mechanics like the ring system—where rings acted as protection instead of traditional lives—and the importance of momentum: losing speed often made levels much more challenging.
The rivalry between these two masterpieces, one from Sega and one from Nintendo, gave birth to countless sequels that continue to bring joy to consoles even today.
Of course, I still play with the same eyes I had as a kid—because while the body moves forward in time, certain emotions are truly timeless.
Have a great weekend!
