Summer nostalgia hits hard while I’m coding like I’m actually making money off this.
I remember the first time I met MaybeGrifis inside World of Warcraft.
I’d already been playing for a while, and I was trying to convince him to join because WoW was honestly incredible…
Guys, when WoW launched, it was mind-blowingly beautiful and immersive.
Anyway, I was a night elf druid, we were still on the elf tree island, and I was by the riverbank near that spider that served as the final boss of the area—I don’t remember its name.
MaybeGrifis chose a warrior class. This detail is important.
At some point, I saw on the map that he was approaching, so I turned toward his direction and there he was:
A rusty greatsword, red mage robe, and a lantern.
That’s how he was geared.
Neither of us had any clue what we were doing in-game—but from that moment on, one of the best adventures of my life began.
Seriously guys, I’m talking in general.
In gaming terms, very few things have come close to the feelings WoW gave us—roaming the world almost randomly, hunting for that one quest, spending whole nights on TeamSpeak drunk with the squad.
Bonus moment:
I remember once, we were in the Onyxia raid.
40 players, all on TeamSpeak.
I was convinced, absolutely convinced, I was in a private voice chat with MaybeGrifis.
So without filters or shame, I started telling him in full detail what had happened the night before with a girl I had just met.
With our usual irreverent, acidic style, I spared no detail…
Then, suddenly, someone typed in chat:
“DarkNoise… your mic is open.”
Good times, folks.
Really, good times.
